Love Like The Sun Shines
I love this poem by Hafiz:
Even after all this time the sun never says to the earth, “You owe me.”
Look what happens with a love like that, it lights the whole sky.
We are meant to love like the sun shines its light on the earth—impartially. It’s easiest to love where our love feels appreciated and to withhold love where our efforts lack appreciation, but that’s not what this journey is about. To increase the amount of love in this world, we’ve got to become like the sun and just shine. Our job is to cultivate love within and, then, to give it wherever we are, regardless of the circumstances—this is key! If we only lend our love to places where light already exists, darkness will never have a chance to right itself. Instead, it will be left to feed on itself, which will only lead to more of the same. Either we choose to direct love and light to darkness or we unknowingly foster it through our neglect and/or abject resentment of it.
