Can you imagine just knowing what to do by your soul impulse?

Love + Shifting out of Ego and Into Spirit

It might be interesting to know that despite my commitment to my inner growth, I do not have a specific vision for an outer goal or accomplishment.  I don’t have a picture of something that I’m trying to achieve or create in the world of form.  Instead, my goal is much more intangible…it is to achieve and experience “choiceless awareness”.

Choiceless awareness occurs when the divine is allowed to unfold through us, on a moment-to-moment basis.  When this occurs, there is no choice…there is just the divine plan, for that moment.

There’s no more second guessing what we should do or what we should have done, because we know that whatever happens or happened was divinely orchestrated.  We know that our actions were based in a soul impulse, and because of this, it was out of love, for the good of the whole.

Can you imagine how amazing it would be to live this way?!  Everything that you did would be out of love, as an expression of your soul.

When we’re committed to a path of inner growth, this is where we’re headed.  This state comes about when we free ourselves from all illusions produced by ego, or our false self.  The way to accomplish this is by learning to see through the illusions that we have been trapped in for so long.

If we have one foot in the world of illusions and one foot in the world of meaning, we still have to make a choice.  We either make choices that deepen the illusion or that open us to the world of meaning.  Choiceless awareness occurs when this choice is no longer necessary, because our entire awareness is composed of the world of meaning.

Ironically, the only way to move towards choiceless awareness is to open our eyes to the choice that leads to choiceless awareness…the choice between illusions and the world of meaning.  As we make choices that fill our awareness with the world of meaning, we move closer to experiencing choiceless awareness.

We have to start by looking at what currently fills our awareness and slowly sift through and release all of the illusions that distract us from experiencing choiceless awareness.  In setting a goal for how you want to perceive the world, you create a lens by which to view all of the attitudes, beliefs, thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that currently make up your awareness.

Most of the time, this lens is created unconsciously, through past conditioning.  Consciously setting a goal offers you the ability to examine your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors from the perspective of this new goal.  It is a great way to bring awareness to all that makes up your perception of the world.

When we place choiceless awareness (or aligning with the world of meaning) as our new goal, we are in a position to recognize all of our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that prevent us from experiencing this goal.  We can, then, consciously choose whether or not we want to continue to invest our energy and attention in them.

The conscious placement of our energy and attention is what gives us the ability to move towards the particular goal that we have set for our awareness.

The particular thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that prevent us from aligning with choiceless awareness function as our ego.  Their only purpose is to distract us from aligning with the world of meaning.

If our commitment to choiceless awareness is strong, these thoughts, emotions, and behaviors will begin to lose their hold over us.  They continue to have a stronghold over us only when we continue to value them.  This is where our individual commitment to our inner growth plays a huge role in our ability to move further down this path.

With each thought, emotion, and behavior that loses a foothold in our awareness, space is created to go deeper into the world of meaning.  When our entire awareness is open to the world of meaning, we experience choiceless awareness.

Our inner work (and divine timing) is what determines how far we’re able to travel towards this goal.  We may not have control over whether or not we get to fully experience choiceless awareness, but we can control whether or not we show up to do our inner work.

Even if we’re never able to fully reach a state of choiceless awareness, any progress towards this goal will allow us to reap aspects of the benefits that come with its full realization.  We’ll experience more inner peace, a greater capacity to decipher the meaningful from the meaningless, and a deeper alignment with our inner and outer purpose.

Have you ever considered the concept of choiceless awareness?  How does it resonate with you?  Are you willing to set this as a goal for how you view your everyday experiences?  I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below…
