Know What Matters Most To You
The clearer you are on what’s important to you, the easier it is to prioritize where you place your time, energy and attention.
Maybe you define this through what you value…
Or maybe it’s defined by how you see your purpose…
Or by how you define your wants, needs and desires.
What matters is that you know “your things”.
This is your barometer for what to say Yes to and what to say No to.
Otherwise you risk letting your days get eaten up with anything that pops up and manages to steal your attention.
When we don’t know what’s most important to us, there’s no boundary around where and how we spend our time.
And the days just slip by without a deep connection to what we would define as most meaningful to us.
Which often leaves us feeling disconnected, buried in the mundane, unfulfilled, and scattered as we race from one thing to the next.
Then, we cover up the unease we feel from the deep disconnect from our hearts with all sorts of distractions.
Life is about living from our hearts by showing up for what matters most to us.
But we can’t do that if we don’t know what these things are.
So I ask, “What matters most to you?“
Is it showing up for yourself, your family, your community and/or the world in certain ways?
Be specific in how you desire to show up (not necessarily with the specific actions you desire to take but with the quality and intention you desire your actions to be guided from).
The simpler you define what’s important to you, the easier it is to arrange your life around the things that matter most to you…and the easier it is to let what’s not important to you fall away.
Knowing these things allows you to streamline how you spend your time and energy by eliminating certain activities and ways of being, adding new ones and fine tuning existing ones.
As an added assignment to help clarify where and how you’re spending your time, you can list out the activities that need to be eliminated, added and/or refined to wrap your energy around the things you value most.
The more proficient you become at doing this, the more aligned you become with what’s most important to you.
Even if your days look very similar to how you’re currently living them, connecting how you’re spending your time and energy to your values, purpose, and/or desires immediately creates a deeper connection to living more meaningfully…which always feels good.
